The Fred Whitton Challenge consists of a gruelling 112 mile cycle race around the Lake District. The ride starts and finishes at Grasmere Sports Field, and takes in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott & Wrynose passes. Just turn up and watch or if you want to take part there are a few charity rider places left at a reduced entry price of £45. As the name suggests, it is run in honour of Fred Whitton. Fred, who died aged just 50 in 1998, was an extremely popular member of the Lakes Road Club.

Grasmere Sports Day

Don't worry if you're not here when any of these events are on! Throughout the year a range of great talks and events are held at the Wordsworth Museum and Allan Bank. And every other weekend from March to September there is an Antique & Collectors Fair held in Grasmere's village hall.

Lake View Country House makes a great base to enjoy these local events. We are just a minute's stroll to the village, but as we are down a quiet lane we're away from all the hustle and bustle!
